Sim Scenes weekly challenge

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 5:27 PM

I've been out of the sims loop for a while. I've been busy rebuilding my neighbor, which is really hard to do when all, yes all my custom content and lots being gone. Luckily, I had uploaded most of my sims to my website or I would be really really upset.

Anywoo! I decided to do this weeks Sim Scene challenge to get myself back into playing. the critreria for this week are Engagement, Neglect & Food. I apologize for the bad photo editing and choppy story. I'll explain after the story after the pictures. =D

Tech Support Question *Fixed!!*

  • Jul. 1st, 2009 at 10:20 PM

My sim neighborhood rebuild has been going well enough. I still need to build houses and community lots, as well as start up SimPE to tweak family ties and what not.

I did come across a problem. My Holiday Stuff expansion isn't installing. It keeps saying It's already installed, which it isn't. I did have the expansion installed on my desktop long long long ago. So, it is possible a file was "left behind" during uninstall. I ran a registry fix and still nothing. Has anyone come across this problem before?

Any help is appreciated. I will search again for an answer, maybe I missed something....

*edit* My holiday pack installed! I found a forum entry about a Civ 4 expansion doing the same thing my holiday expansion was doing, saying it is already installed, that is. The guy used an cleaner/registry fix program called Ccleaner which did the trick. I have a registry fix program, which didn’t work. So, I didn’t think this program would work either. But, I tried it anyway with a ‘what do I have to lose attitude’ and it worked! I uninstalled everything AGAIN, ran the program, then reinstalled the base game and holiday pack. It worked and I am happy! Now comes the oh so joyous part, reinstalling all the expansion for the 4th freaking time!!!! *Sigh* This hasn’t been my month it really hasn’t. Oh well, better start the reinstallation.

Thank you again ndainye for helping. The EA support page gave me the idea to look for other pc game installation problems, which lead me to the Civ 4 problem.

If it’s not one thing it’s another…

No, this is not another work rant, though there is always plenty of drama at the bookstore. =P

Tragedy hit, my laptop is dead. The motherboard is fried. I panicked, I confess. The good news is my baby (the laptop) can be saved. I love warranties!

Bad news is backing up the hard drive wasn’t under the warranty and I don’t have an extra $70 (about 43£ ) to do it. So what does this mean? All of my sim stuff is gone. The neighborhood, my pictures, my chapters, my lots, custom content, and most of my sims. All poof! Not to mention all of the non-sim stuff, like my music. *Snifff*

But, with every cloud there is a silver lining or is that smog? Anyhoo! I did upload most of my legacy sims to my website with the intention of finishing my ‘Who is who’ project. So, I can rebuild!… on my desktop. It might take a bit of time, though. I have to install the game and with luck I’ll be able to remember where I got most of my CCs. Sadly there will be a few sims that will be gone for good, not anyone major, just some side characters I didn’t think to extract. I might be able to recreate them in CAS, maybe?

Hopefully, I will have everything up and running smoothly by tomorrow evening, then I can start retaking pictures. *sigh* Well, at least now I can go back and redo the scenes I wasn’t happy with. =D

Hostile Work Environment

  • Jun. 20th, 2009 at 1:30 AM

That sums up the current feel of my job at the moment. My manager seems to have lost her mind. If she’s not complaining or threatening someone’s job, she isn’t happy. Yes, you hear me right. She has threatening my co-workers with their positions. At first I thought my co-works were exaggerating. Surely, my manager whom I have known for 4 years didn’t commit the biggest "NO NO" of the managing system? Alas, she did. I heard her today and it wasn’t pretty.

I warn you I typed alot )

Here is my entry for this week's scene challenge from sim scenes. I warn you I rushed it a bit. I wanted to get it done and posted before I had to leave. I apologize for bad quality.

This week's criteria is watching TV, surprise & grilled cheese.

Ahh, the joys of moving...

  • May. 28th, 2009 at 11:27 PM

Some of you already know my family and I are moving and if you didn’t you know now. =D We’ve been packing for the last 2 weeks. It’s been a slow process, one box here, another box there, and a few “where the hell did this come from?” moments. But, now it’s crunch time. Our lease is up on the 1st of June, which means mega moving this weekend.

The good thing is that nearly all of our small things have already been moved. Only big things like furniture pieces remain. The bad thing is that we were too efficient. I came to this realization as I tried to make myself dinner and couldn’t find a bowl to place it in. Yes, we had packed and moved ALL of the dishes with the exception of 2 coffee cups and a spoon. I am currently hording said cups and spoon. I will bring the wrath of the apocalypse down upon the head of anyone who would dare take them from me. I WILL HAVE MY TEA TOMORROW MORNING!

On a related note we are down to 2 bath towels, 1 rose scented bar of soap & a travel size shampoo bottle. You guessed it! I have stealthfully captured these marvelous items and for their own safety placed them within my own bathroom.  It serves them right for packing all the necessity items away without thought.

I do feel a little guilty. I have to work tomorrow and Saturday, so I won’t be around to help with the heavy lifting. I would buy everyone dinner to make it up to them, but bills and a dentist appointment have bleed me dry. =(

On a side note, I found some catnip, which I have given to my cat, Sophie. This may or may not be a smart decision. Currently she is jumping at her shadow and eyes my feet. If I lose a limb I will know it was a bad decision. End side note.

Just to let people know, I have yet to get internet hooked up at the new place. I am looking into cable internet, which I have found to be cheaper, than DSL. However, it appears that I might not be able to get it. The subdivision doesn’t appear to be cable ready or at least not to Charter (a cable company). This makes me believe it is true for all the cable companies. I will still check all the same. I really want cable internet. I’ve heard it’s so much faster with no disconnecting during bad weather.

Anyhoo, if you’re all wondering “where the hell is she?” I am simply internet-less. Maybe I’ll get lucky and snag a wireless connection. =D

I guess I should get back to cleaning. It’s amazing the junk you find under dressers and behind shelves. How did this crap get here anyway?

This is my entry for this week’s scene challenge from sim_scenes. For those of you who don’t follow the Sims. This is simply a creative challenge. Each week 3 criteria are given. Using at the very least 2 of the 3 criteria you must tell a story using only 10 pictures and no words.

The criteria for this week are haunting, acceptance & money.

Hopefully, my story makes sense to everyone.

Weekly Scene Challenge

  • May. 12th, 2009 at 2:43 PM

Hello everyone! I am trying out a picture challenge from </a></font></b></a>[info]sim_scenes. They have asked me not to freind lock my entry so others on the community can see it. So, for those of you who are like 'what the heck is this' I apologize. Sims 2 is a hobby of mine, but must of you know this. In any case, the rules of the challenge is to tell a story using only 10 slide and to incorporate 3 criteria; Crime, Disappointment & Photograph(s). Hopefully, I've made my story clear to understand. Telling something with just pictures is hard. I had so many more slide I wanted to add. Oh well, here it is...

Take cover the pine trees are attacking!

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 11:27 AM

Every spring it snows; mind controlling pine tree pollen that is. Everything gets covered with a fine dusting of yellow. It’s not pretty. :(

This car isn’t just dirty, it’s been pollinated.

Yes, it may look harmless enough. But, don’t let the “flower” guise fool you. There are no petals and that’s not a perfume aroma you smell. No, dear friends, it’s a spore-ish massive of fine particles that floats in the air and gets into your lungs where it can spread throughout your body to control you!

This evil pine tree pollen takes over your brain so fast; you barely have time to sneeze. Before you know it your head is so fogged up, your sinuses are so clogged & your throat so itchy that you curse plant life in its entirety and become a vegetarian to reap your vengeance. Take that Asparagus spear! I shall eat your kin until nothing remains! Muahahahaha!!
On top of that your hearing gets fuzzy.

“You look nice today.”

“How did you know my panties are pink?”

“No, I said you look nice.”

“How dare you! My grandmother is a saint!”

And your voice gets scratchy, like Harvey Fierstein. Look him up, you’ll understand.

However, the evil pine trees aren’t satisfied with just making you miserable. No no, they want to bleed your wallet as dry as the Atacama Desert. Again, just look it up.

Little do people know, but the extremely evil pine trees own stock in the pharmaceutical companies.

As the pollen seeps into your brain cells, your body is pulled to the nearest drug store where walls of antihistamine medication in smart looking packaging line up for your purchasing pleasure. Hypnotized you pull forth your plastic card forgetting all about the nice dinner you planned to go to with loving friends and swipe! The evil pine trees’ stock just went up.

The pain and misery don’t end there. You take your shinny box of salvation home. Stumbling into the kitchen for a glass of tap water, you swig down the joy that is Pseudoephedrine. “sigh” Look up.

You sit back smiling, knowing that the fog will soon lift, when you realize… I can hear myself blink … The exceptionally evil pine trees have not only poisoned you and robbed you blind, but now they are laughing! The room is spinning and I’m sleepy. Non- drossy my ass!

Time for a nap.

This has been a Pseudoephedrine induced post. Have a nice day and beware the extraordinarily evil pine trees. Once they gain enough capital they plan to invade Rhode Island. You have been warned.

Funny & Cute Bookstore Moment

  • Mar. 19th, 2009 at 9:50 AM

So, there I was shelving the new romance novel, which came in February for our Valentine’s Day ‘buy 4 Paperback novels get one free sale’, back into the romance section. This section is directly across from the kid’s section. But, before you start screaming ‘romance shouldn’t be anywhere near kids, there are 2 shelves which separate them, the Young Adult and Parenting section.

So, there I was shelving away, when I hear this little boy, maybe 4-ish say the words ‘look mommy it’s a truck’ over and over and over and over and over again. If you have kids or have been around kids long enough, then you know exactly what I am talking about. The kid was being loud and at this point I wondered why his mother wasn’t trying to keep him quite. I peered around to see the child holding the book up for his mother, saying the phrase over and over again. She was reading the back of a book. Tuning a child out is the first thing new parents learn. Sadly this lady was a pro at it.

Just as a thought that, the kid jumps in front of her getting her attention. With a mean looking face he says “Daddy would understand!” turns and runs down the aisle. The mother blinked and followed. I went back to shelving.

Bookstore Rantings...

  • Mar. 1st, 2009 at 11:58 PM

I work in a book store as many of you know. I am using this post as a venting page.

The things I deal with at work….

I had one lady ask me to find a list of books, a freakin’ List! After I found them all she looks then over and say ‘I’m going to wait’. What? I give her a stack of books and she’s not going to buy any of them? Ok, I’m fine with this. It happens, I move on.

Same day another lady asked me the price of a sale item. It’s on the 90% off clearance table. I ask for the book and look on the back. Price $7.99. I tell her the price is about $0.80 and what does she say ‘I want the exact price’.  It’s a kid’s book that is less than $1, come on! But, I smile and bring it over to the register and ring it up to get the ‘exact’ price. $0.80 + $0.05 tax = $0.85. I smile and tell her. She doesn’t want to buy it, she just wanted to know. What the hell! Grrr……Ok, ok this stuff happens, time to move on.

I started to shelve some books a customer decided to leave on the magazine rack. I come across a guy who looked lost. “Can I help you?” I asked.

“No I’m, fine.”

“Alright, I will be at the front if you need anything.”

I walked away. I come back maybe 10 minutes later, the same guy this looking through the history section, still looking lost. “Still finding everything ok? Is there a book you need?”

“No, I’m good.”

“Ok” I walk back up to the front.

The guy is still in the store after an hour still looking like he can’t find what he came for.

“Still ok? Need any helping finding anything?”

“No, I’m fine.”

“Alright.” I walk away to shelve again. Time passes the guy comes up to the register with a crossword puzzle book. I ring him up. “Did you find everything you needed?”

“No, I didn’t”

“I’m sorry, what were you looking for? I can look it up right here.”

“No, I’m fine. I’ll look at (name of rival bookstore B & N) for it.”

“It will only take a moment. Let’s see if we have it here.”

“No, that’s ok.”

*sigh* I asked him 3 times and he said he was fine. Does that make any sense to anyone?

Last rant I promise. A big part of my job is seeing if anyone need help finding anything. We are told to go around every 5 to 10 minutes and ask everyone if they need help. I get a lot of ‘I’m fine’, ‘just looking’, ‘already have what I need’, and things like that. But, after working a bookstore for 5 years I have never heard the phrase ‘Oh, I don’t read’ until transferring to the Mall of Georgia location of my company. It wasn’t once, but several times I have heard this phrase from the locals. Seriously, who goes into a bookstore and says ‘Oh, I don’t read’ when asked if they need help? If you don’t read way are you in a bookstore and what do you mean you don’t read? Are they illiterate? I how not, but could be true. Is reading not a preferred pastime? That I can understand to a point. But even so, why say ‘Oh, I don’t read’? Are they trying to look ignorant? Arrrgggh!

Ok, I’m done. I feel better now.

Cirque du Soleil

  • Feb. 19th, 2009 at 9:47 AM

So, my boyfriend works for a non-profit organization that supports the Arts in Atlanta. This non-profit also runs a ½ price ticket booth for almost all of the shows they support. This means we see a lot of shows together for ½ the price. Everything from local plays to opera. So, when I get the call asking if I wanted to go to Cirque du Soleil I jumped for joy! Then reality hit. Even if we were only paying ½ price, that’s still $30 each. I don’t know about everyone else but for me right now isn’t the time to spend money on entertainment. I was feeling low, because I knew I would have to decline. Then he said those magic words....comp tickets....WooooHoooo!!! Cirque du Soleil for free!! Oh yeah!... So, we went.

The location of the tent was right next to a new trendy shopping area, called Atlantic Station. Most of the parking was underground, which mean very little car traffic in the shopping area itself. This was nice since we needed to walk to dinner then to the tent area. While at dinner it started to rain and when I say rain I mean tornado watch. Great.... But, no worries the worst of it was far to the west and would be a bit before it got to us. We travelled on to the tent via the underground parking to avoid the heavy drops. Only to find out we had to walk through the rain to get to the tent.... I was not happy. But, it wasn’t going to let up so we did and we got soaked along with many others. My poor little umbrella broke against the wind. Poor blue umbrella you served me well. Sniff...

Once inside and away from the rain we found our seat and waited for the show. It was packed and the tent had a leak. There I am sitting patiently soaking wet and I have to sit in the one spot where there was a leak. All during the 1st part of the wonderful, most awesome show, I had fat drops land on my leg. Sigh...The good thing is the rain stopped during the 2nd half. It was a great show and I might consider spending the money next year to see it. But, next time I will bring a rain jacket. :D

Aquarium Pictures!

  • Feb. 12th, 2009 at 10:46 PM

Why oh why did I not go sooner? I had a wonderful time today with all the fishies! My Boyfriend took most of the pictures, because I was stupid and forgot my camera. So here they are...

Here is a pic of me and my Joe.

This sign stood right outside the aquarium entrance. I found it very amusing. Because we all know that waffles and fish go hand and hand. :P

These are the best pictures that came out. Those fishies are fast and camera shy.

My overall view:
It takes longer to go through the exhibits then you think. They seem small, but there is a lot to look at. There are a lot of places to sit down and for good reason. After going through 2 exhibits my legs were getting tire. So, sit whenever you have a chance. Remember to look up as well as round. There are fishy tanks above you in a few of the section, which is awesome! I really like the way the whole place flows from one area to the next. Get it? Flows, aquarium...hehe it's been a long day. I would very much like to go again and spend more time watching the otters. I have no pictures of them. They wouldn't stay still long enough. :(

Enjoy the pictures. I am off to sleep. I be very sleepy

Aquarium!!

  • Feb. 12th, 2009 at 11:36 AM

I finally get to go to the Aquarium today! For those who don’t know, I live in Georgia really close to the capital Atlanta. It opened up November 2005 and is considered the largest Aquarium in the world. Now, roughly 3 years later I finally get to see it.

Why haven’t I seen it before, since I live so close? I am a prime example of the person who says ‘there’s nothing fun to do around here’. It is very true what they say about not noticing what’s in your own backyard. When it first opened I told myself ‘I can go anytime I want, it’s just downtown’. Then I forgot about it. :(

Now, after 3 years of intending to see I will finally do so. I'll have to remeber to post pictures. :D

Not a normal day...

  • Feb. 9th, 2009 at 11:15 PM

I carpool with a co-worker to work every weekend. I am a bit pushy when it comes to getting places on time. I can’t stand being late for anything and I don’t easily forgive people who are late. It’s just one of my pet peeves.

Last weekend my worst fear happened. I was late for work by 15 minutes. There isn’t an excuse for it I simply forgot the time I need to be at work. I normally have evening shifts. I come in at 4:30 and work until close. But, not that weekend. My co-worker and I share the same weekend shift and she also forgot.

To try to make amends she, my co-worker called in to work and apologized and said we would be there are quick as we could. This is important later in the story.

So, we arrive at work 15 minute late and I am feeling terrible. The shift before us has to stay until we arrive and I know how crappy it is to wait for someone to come in when you really want to leave.

My boss was waiting for us in the back room. I excepted the ’your responsible for your schedule’ lecture. But, what we got, or rather what my co-worker got was more then a simple ‘don’t do it again’ speech.

My boss looked straight at my co-worker and said “To be late is one thing. But, not to say sorry, shows me I don’t have your respect.”

What the hell?

For one thing this was the first time we had ever been late. Second, she did apologize over the phone, I heard her, I was there. I am very sure it was my boss my co-worker was speaking to. It got worse after that. My co-worker went on the defensive and stated she did say sorry and that she really was. But, my boss refused to acknowledge it and continued yelling; yes, I said yelling, about how my co-worker had been snubbing her for weeks.

Now, at this point I knew this wasn’t about being late. Never once did my manager look in my direction. It was as if I wasn’t there. Finally, my boss threw her hands up and marched away to her office. It was one of those awkward moments where you just want to back out slowly from the room. Instead I hung up my coat grabbed my nametag and walked out into the shop and started my shift like nothing was wrong.

I found out later that my co-worker had quit. I couldn’t blame her. She finished her shift, which I’m surprised she did. I can’t say I would do the same.

As I was leaving for the day, my boss asked me if I was leaving to. It never crossed my mind. So, I said as much. I couldn’t help but ask her if she excepted me to. She simple said no and walked back into her office. I can’t be sure but I think my boss regretted the whole thing. I can only hope she did.

I went out for a drink with my co-worker. The reality of not having a job came and went and she seems fine. Her family will take care of her until she finds something else. It’s not like the bookstore pays well anyway. She’ll find something better.

I just wanted to talk about what happened. It was one of those surreal moments that changes your view point. My days of laughing with my boss over silly things is pretty much over. Not because I intent to have an attitude over this. It’s just right now I feel that work isn’t fun anymore.
